5 Fun Spring Break Activities
Spring break is right around the corner for many us in Atlanta. The weather is warming up more days than not and it’s looking beautiful outside! I’m sure some families will take trips, and some will have a nice staycation. Either way, I have just a few ideas of how to make Spring Break a HIT wherever you are! All of the activities are low to no cost and are great ways to still stay safe, while having a great time!

Make a Family Playlist and then Dance to it! – When I say make a family playlist, I mean make it TOGETHER! Have each person pick 1 or 2 of their favorite songs. It will give you all a chance to learn a little more about what each of you are into at the moment. It will also get you guys moving and maybe laughing! Depending on when you do it, it can also be a good way to burn some of that endless kid energy right before a nap or before your bedtime routine. Take your dance party up a notch by learning a dance routine together and recording yourselves!
Create Some Art – It’s the perfect time to get some brushes or little fingers and paint, color or craft! This can be done inside or outside! I love a good outdoor paint party with my kids and a box of sidewalk chalk. Crafting can help build fine motor skills in little children as well as help them practice essential “school” skills like cutting and coloring in the line. Older children and adults benefit because it allow you the opportunity to express yourself freely! Crafting, in general, can be such a fun and calming activity, especially when you put on the right music. A quick youtube search of “relaxing music” will pull up some fantastic options. Here is my 5 year old son’s favorite relaxing playlist! (Yes, he has one he loves!) Here is another playlist that I enjoy with the kids.

The book “Hair Love” by Matthew A. Cherry.
Flash’s artistic rendition of “Hair Love”.
Movie Night – Grab some s’mores, fruit, popcorn (if it’s not a choking hazard for your child), and more, then find a movie! With the right movie, even the littlest of kids will sit still! Now is the perfect time to find a NEW movie. I know small kids tend to be fixated on the same (read: familiar) movies and shows. We try to break that up with a movie no one has seen! Our family just started watching Kiki’s Delivery Service and my 2 year old daughter sat, completely fixated at the screen! It’s her first full-length movie! Totoro, Soul, Wreck it Ralph and Ponyo are just a few of the discoveries we’ve made. Wanna make it more fun? Pitch a tent in your living room to watch the movie or try put up a white sheet on a wall outside and use a projector for an outdoor movie!

Bake or Make Something Yummy – There’s nothing better than getting messy for foods sake! Try cooking with your family. I find it easier to bake cookies or cakes with tiny hands. Little kids can use cookie cutters and add in the ingredients that aren’t too heavy to lift. Older kids can work on mixing or preheating the oven. Everyone can help decorate! There are many ways to get the whole family involved when it comes to cooking, baking and eating!
Go to Your Local & State Parks – Let’s get moving at your local or state parks. You can go camping, go for fun family hikes or take bikes, scooters, skates, and skateboards and cruise around as a family. We have done all of these! My garage is literally full of wheels and we make good use of them all year long! My son recently climbed to the top of Stone Mountain in Georgia for the first time! We went camping as a family in our backyard and at the park! We even got to do some fishing at a lake. See what your parks have to offer and then GO!
I hope all of you have a great break from work and school. Get messy, make memories, go on adventures and eat tasty treats!
Happy Spring Break!
